Ask how Double Up Food Bucks works at your local store

Grocery store staff are ready to help you get started.

Grocery stores may use coupons, a store loyalty card, or the Double Up Food Bucks card. Your local store’s cashier will be happy to explain how it works at their location. If you’re given a coupon, don’t forget to bring it the next time you shop.

3

Shop for fruits and veggies

As you shop, don’t forget to explore all the fresh local produce grown right here in New York!

4

Pay with your SNAP benefits and get Double Up Food Bucks

For every dollar you spend on fruits and veggies with your SNAP benefits, the grocery store will match it dollar for dollar – between $5 – $20 a day depending upon the participating location. Large grocery store chains will match your purchase up to $5 a day, and automatically print up to a $5 coupon that you can redeem on your next purchase. Small independent, local and co-op grocery stores, will match up to $20 a day. You can use Double Up Food Bucks to buy even more fruits and veggies at that store the next time you shop. It’s that simple.

1

Find a participating farmers market near you

With more than 200 participating locations across New York, it’s easy to find a farmers market near you.

2

Look for a Market Manager or the information booth

Before you shop, go to the farmers market info booth and ask about Double Up Food Bucks. Market staff are ready to help you get started.

3

Get your SNAP and Double Up tokens

Let the farmers market staff know how much you want to spend from your SNAP benefits at the market.

For every $2 you spend from your SNAP benefits, you will get $2 in Double Up Food Bucks.

Many markets use tokens for both SNAP benefits and Double Up Food Bucks. Some use the Double Up Food Bucks card instead of tokens. The Double Up card matches your SNAP purchases dollar for dollar.

4

Shop for food

Use your SNAP tokens to buy any SNAP-eligible foods, including bread and meat, and your Double Up tokens to buy any fruits and vegetables grown in New York. From apples to zucchini, an entire alphabet of produce is available to you.
